Bomb thrown at police checkpoint
Assailants attacked a police checkpoint in eastern Cairo in the early hours of Wednesday morning, injuring four policemen.
Policemen at the scene told privately owned portal Youm7 that three men were involved in the attack, one of whom threw what was described as a “homemade bomb” at the checkpoint. The explosion was heard in neighborhoods as far away as Zamalek.
The policemen added that the perpetrators were in a car that had gone through the checkpoint and been searched immediately prior to the attack, but that nothing had been found inside the car.
Major Moataz El-Gohary was injured by bomb fragments that struck him in the head and back while the three other policemen sustained minor injuries.
