Bomb explodes close to Al-Azhar
A homemade bomb exploded on Saturday near the fence surrounding Al-Azhar University hostel in Nasr City, east Cairo, privately owned daily Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
Al-Azhar University security chief, General Magdy Abbas, said that no casualties or damage resulted from the blast, adding that a bomb squad is currently searching the area for more devices. Nasr City prosecutor Ahmed Magdy Abdel Ghany also reportedly headed to the site after the explosion.
Earlier this month, police arrested four Al-Azhar students outside Cairo University in connection with violence carried out outside the premises of the university.
Al-Azhar has witnessed ongoing violence during the university's first semester, with at least three students killed in clashes with the police.
