Bomb blast near Saudi embassy in Giza

A crude bomb placed on Gamaa bridge in Giza exploded late on Tuesday evening. The bomb was located near the Saudi embassy and the old Israeli embassy headquarters.

No deaths or injuries were reported, however, three cars parked close by were destroyed, state-run Al-Ahram daily newspaper reported.

Bomb disposal experts and civil protection forces were deployed to the location of the incident and detection dogs used to search for any other explosive devices. Security forces surrounded the area and traffic was diverted.

Meanwhile, privately owned Youm7 newspaper said that General Prosecutor Hesham Barakat deployed a team to the scene to start investigations into the explosion.

In 2012 the Israeli embassy was moved to the Maadi neighbourhood, where the ambassador resides. The decision followed a series of protests targeting the old embassy headquarters in Giza and demanding the expulsion of the ambassador in response to the deaths of six Egyptian soldiers on the Egyptian-Israeli border.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior announced the death of the suspect in the January Cairo Security Directorate bombing after a violent altercation with security forces.
