Arish gas pipeline blown up for the 24th time
A natural gas pipeline has been blown up again in south-eastern Arish, north Sinai, by unknown assailants, the official Middle East News Agency reported on Thursday, quoting security sources.
The explosion was on the main gas pipeline leading to Taba, which is used to export gas to Jordan.
Security forces added that there were no human casualties.
This is the twenty-fourth attack on the same pipeline since the January 25, 2011 revolution. The last incident took place on July 20.
The attacks have largely been blamed on the Sinai-based jihadist group Ansar Beit al-Maqdes, as they claimed responsibility for one of the bombings. No group has so far come forward regarding this incident.
The pipeline previously serviced Israel, and still services Jordan, while also supplying natural gas to the Egyptian military’s cement factories in the peninsula.
