Amr Moussa says Sisi’s presidential program in the works

The presidential program currently in the works for likely candidate Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi “includes an ambitious plan to rework Egypt’s developmental and investment roadmap,” reported the state-owned Al-Ahram portal.

Amr Moussa, who headed the committee that drafted Egypt's new Constitution, gave some insight into the presidential program being put together for Sisi, who is expected to officially announce his candidacy soon, ending months of speculation and hearsay.

Most observers believe that Sisi will run, and win, the upcoming presidential elections. Sisi himself has given hints that he will enter the race.

Moussa, himself a former presidential hopeful in the 2012 elections which brought former President Mohamed Morsi to power, has apparently been tapped to lead the impending campaign.

Sisi’s development strategy would entail restructuring the number of governorates and most of their borders, in line with broader changes to administrative plans, Al-Ahram reported.

His vision is based on two main points, Moussa says, primarily “rebuilding the state on modern principles that take into consideration the obligations set in the 2014 Constitution for the state.”

Secondly, the field marshal will “engage the people in his optimism towards the future regarding broad development and realizing social justice,” according to Moussa’s statements in Al-Ahram, who also mentioned an aim for complete transparency in Egypt’s economic conditions in the future.

The presidential program reportedly sets out guarantees for “prosperity and a dignified life” for Egyptians, while respecting the rights and freedoms granted by the Constitution.

In his capacity as president, Sisi will focus on poverty reduction, improving the quality of life, reinvigorating the middle class, restoring security and reforming state institutions. His program will also highlight plans for human resource development and urban development while fully utilizing Egypt’s resources, safeguarding them for future generations and protecting Egypt’s interests, namely its water and energy sources.

Interim President Adly Mansour confirmed Saturday that the final results of the presidential elections, expected to take place this summer, will be immunized from being challenged in the courts, a stipulation in the Presidential Elections Law which has proved contentious among political parties.
