Airstrikes on four homes near the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuwayed killed seven and injured another five on Thursday, according to Armed Forces spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali.

The Air Forces carried out the strikes with the intent to eliminate “Takrifist [hardline extremists] elements tied to the Muslim Brotherhood,” Ali said in a post on his official Facebook page.

He named two suspects targeted in the attack — Suleiman Abu Adhabish and Suleiman Abu Mahous — but did not name what group they are thought to be affiliated with.

Militant groups that previously limited their operations to the restive peninsula have recently expanded attacks into the mainland. The Sinai-based jihadist group Ansar Beit al-Maqdes claimed responsibility for at least two bombings in Cairo last Friday.

The Muslim Brotherhood has denied any ties to the group, although media commentators and the general public have lumped the two groups into the same category.
