5 killed in drive-by shooting targeting police in Giza: Interior Ministry
Three Central Security Forces conscripts, an enlisted police officer and one other unidentified person were killed in a drive-by shooting in Giza’s Badrasheen neighborhood on Friday morning, according to an Interior Ministry statement.
“Three anonymous armed people riding a motorbike shot at a car at a police patrol in Badrasheen on Friday morning,” read the statement. “After one police personnel responded by firing his weapon, the anonymous shooters fled the scene.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far.
Egypt's security forces have been subject to several attacks during the past week, most notably the operation claimed by the militant group Hassm in which National Security Agency officer Ibrahim Azazy was assassinated. Following the attack, security forces have conducted a series of raids, killing at least four Hassm members.
Egyptian police and the armed forces have been facing heightening attacks in Sinai since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 on the back of popular protests against his rule. The attacks have expanded to the Delta in recent years.
