17 conscripts die in road accident
A road accident in the northern governorate of Beheira claimed the lives of 17 conscripts Sunday, when an army bus crashed into a truck, MENA reported.
The accident, which occurred on Alamein Road, also left 35 people injured, a military source said. Ambulances transported the injured to a hospital in Wadi al-Natroun.
Al-Ahram reported that the conscripts were released on leave and making their way back to their families.
Road accidents claim about 12,000 lives every year in Egypt, according to the WHO.
The Armed Forces issued a statement on Facebook mourning the victims and offering its condolences to their families.
