11 arrested in Haram district MB protest
The Interior Ministry stated on Sunday that police forces had arrested 11 and confiscated six handbags containing Molotov cocktails and fireworks during a Muslim Brotherhood-led protest in the Haram district.
Around 500 Brotherhood members gathered at the intersection of Haram and Taawon Streets and started throwing Molotov cocktails at security forces and passers by. A bus was set on fire as a result, but the blaze was quickly controlled.
The ministry added that that police dispersed the crowd using tear gas and pursued them in nearby side streets. Legal procedures have been taken against those arrested, the statement added.
At least one person died on Friday after a homemade bomb exploded near the Radoubis movie house in the Haram district. Earlier that day another bomb exploded near Talbeya Police Station in the Giza neighborhood of Haram, leaving no casualties.
The Haram area has witnessed fierce clashes almost every Friday, with many of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated marches starting from the neighborhood.
