Clement Alfons, the first deacon with hearing loss in Egypt and the region, hails from Sudan, having moved to Egypt in 1987 during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Alfons teaches hearing-impaired members of the Episcopal Church and is currently creating a Bible in sign language for those with hearing loss.
