The June 30 civilian alliance

Sisi addresses the nation on July 3

On June 30, 2013, the complex political map of Egypt was reduced to an uneven binary. The Muslim Brotherhood stood on one side, while all major political forces were momentarily aligned as part of the June 30 alliance, protesting against the rule of the Brotherhood.

However, over the last year, this alignment has shattered. Political forces that started on the same side maintained different positions during the transition of power to a pro-military government, the severe crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and the policies of the emerging regime of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Mada Masr tracks the developing positions of political forces that gravitated towards and away from the alliance over the year, featuring a number of political parties (the Dostour Party, Strong Egypt Party and the Nour Party), political groups (April 6 Youth Movement and the Revolutionary Socialists) and political figures (Mohamed ElBaradei and Hamdeen Sabbahi).
