Video | Egypt’s puppets: Between the street and the institution

كتابة: Martin Roux 1 دقيقة قراءة

At a time when one of Egypt's most influential talk show hosts is in fact a puppet called Abla Fahita, Martin Roux speaks to various puppeteers, including the iconic Nagy Shaker, who created the puppets for the famous 1960s operetta Al-Leila al-Kebira (The Grand Night), and Nassef Azmy, founder of the street theater troupe Kousha Puppets. He also explores backstage at the state-run Cairo Puppet Theater and the private Sakia Puppet Theater to uncover the history and contemporary reality of puppetry in Egypt.
