Dar al-Barbara has a long history: Under the British occupation of Egypt and the Egyptian monarchy, the word “Barbara” became associated in the memory of Egyptians with the Haggana squads, the strong camel-riding guards who were delegated with dispersing demonstrations, most of whom came from the countryside in the south of Egypt.
Today, this path is visited by many, and is known as one of the best places to buy supplies for the Sebou’ and wedding ceremonies.
