Hamad Hospital in the Sudania area of northern Gaza’s Shati camp was Gaza’s only facility specialized in fitting artificial limbs. Amid the tents for the displaced west of Khan Younis, however, one tent has been dedicated to developing Gaza’s first locally made artificial limb.
In a personal initiative, recent graduates trained in prosthetics have used simple, readily available materials to create a prosthetic leg, fitting it for a young displaced man from northern Gaza who lost his left leg in an Israeli air strike on the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City in December 2023.
