Update: Police shoot, kill microbus driver after July 26 Corridor explosion

A police officer was injured after an attack on the Giza Central Security Forces camp near the July 26 Corridor, the main route between Cairo and the satellite city 6 of October, an Interior Ministry spokesperson told the website of the state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram.

Spokesperson Hany Abdel Latif said that two homemade explosive devices detonated at the CSF camp, after which police and unidentified men in a vehicle exchanged gunfire, the website said in a second report.

A police officer reportedly injured his right hand, although the reports did not specify if it was in the bombing or in the exchange of fire.

Pursuant to the attack, police forces shot and killed a microbus driver who he did not obey orders to halt his vehicle, the website said. The victim, identified as a man from Beni Suef, was unarmed and carried no weapons or explosives.

Last week a string of four bombings quaked three Cairo neighborhoods, killing five.  The largest explosion targeted the Cairo Security Directorate building in Abdeen, injuring 76 and killing four.

The Sinai-based militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdes claimed responsibility for that attack, although people gathered at the bombing sites and in media outlets blamed the Muslim Brotherhood, deposed President Mohamed Morsi’s organization.
