Students protesting against military arrested, suspended
Ten students said to be members of the recently banned Muslim Brotherhood were reportedly arrested on Thursday on charges of throwing Molotov cocktails at police forces as they tried to disperse their protest, said the state-run Middle East News Agency.
The students, who reportedly attend Al-Azhar affiliated high schools and universities, were allegedly blocking Obour Road, situated at the start of the Cairo-Ismailia Road. They chanted against the police and the Armed Forces in protest against what they called the military coup that deposed the former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
The students were accused of throwing the incendiary devices at both security forces and area residents. Some of the protesters reportedly escaped as the arrests were made.
Also on Wednesday, the privately owned daily Al-Masry Al-Youm (AMAY) reported that 28 female students in a Fayoum high school received a 10-day suspension for striking.
The women allegedly began the strike in protest against the arrests of their fellow male students, with whom they had organized a demonstration against the Armed Forces.
The administration said they had decided to ban all political discussions within the high school to avoid disrupting classes.
The suspended students said they refused to comply with the administration’s demand to end the strike.
