State officials prepare to celebrate Jan 25, Police Day

Egyptian officials commemorated the upcoming third anniversary of the January 25 revolution and Police Day at Al-Galaa Theater on Thursday.

Interim President Adly Mansour, Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim were in attendance.

Mansour declared that honorary medals would be awarded posthumously to the 256 martyred police officers killed in recent attacks on security institutions.

“We are celebrating both the anniversary of the revolution and Police Day. We must not forget the martyrs of the revolution, who were killed by deceitful bullets from the revolution’s thieves and thugs, and those who hate Egypt and don’t want to see it be safe and secure,” Mansour said, according to the state-owned Al-Akhbar newspaper.

There is no place in the new Egypt for the old regime, Mansour continued, assuring the youth that "no one shall take from you the ownership of a country that you fought for.”

In recent days the state has made an exerted effort to assure the country’s youth movements that Egypt is on the right track, following a dramatically low youth vote in the constitutional referendum held on January 14 and 15.

"You are the future, and whatever you revolted against is part of the past. Do not listen to those who depress you and hold you back," the interim president exhorted.

Ibrahim also addressed the youth in his speech, saying that he gave his full trust to "the attentive youth behind the January 25 and June 30 revolutions, as you are the base of the present and the hope of the future.”

Meanwhile, Cairo governorate declared a plan for festivals and carnivals to celebrate the third anniversary of January 25 revolution on Saturday, the state-owned news site Egynews reported.

Cairo Governor Galal Saeid said that different festivals would take place on Friday and Saturday in Heliopolis, Nasr City and Helwan, and all public parks and gardens would be opened to visitors.
