Son of Brotherhood tycoon arrested
Police arrested Moaz Malek, the son of Muslim Brotherhood business tycoon Hassan Malek, on Monday, the state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported without disclosing the allegations against him or other details of the arrest.
His older brother, Omar Malek, was arrested in Nasr City in August along with two friends following the violent dispersal of Rabea al-Adaweya and Nahda Square protest camps in Cairo. The Ministry of Interior alleges he incited violence and murder as one of the sit-in organizers.
Meanwhile, two Brotherhood members and a member of the Salafi Jihadi movement were arrested in Suez on Monday on allegations of inciting violence and involvement in the deaths of those killed when clashes erupted between police and Brotherhood supporters on October 6. MENA reported that Salafi Jihadi member Fawzy Gomaa had previously been detained for his alleged involvement in the bombings of the Sinai gas pipeline, but was released during the tenure of deposed President Mohamed Morsi.
The arrests are the latest of thousands of detentions of Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist leaders since former President Mohamed Morsi was removed from office in early July.
