President Mansour’s celebratory speech
Interim President Adly Mansour gave a speech Sunday evening in celebration of the constitutional referendum results.
He began by thanking the Egyptian people, who according to him, “have embarked on a difficult but right road to harvest the fruits of two glorious revolutions.”
“Egyptian Citizens have given the constitution legitimacy,” Mansour said, adding that the constitution is a means and not a goal; a cornerstone for a nation that Egyptians will build together.
He assured all citizens that they have made the right decision and expressed his utter confidence that they will do the same again in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
The interim president made reference to the “glorious 1952 revolution,” which he said marked the beginning of the industrial and agricultural evolution of Egypt.
He saluted Egyptian women for “setting an example in political awareness,” and addressed young Egyptians as “the fuel of both noble revolutions,” urging them, “your role is not complete,” and calling upon them to form political parties and finish what they started.
Finally, he thanked the police and Armed Forces for securing the referendum.
Several international and local publications stated on Saturday that the interim president was to announce the date of the presidential elections during his speech.
However, unlike widespread rumors, Mansour did not discuss details regarding the presidential or parliamentary elections.
