Police defuse bomb in Shubra al-Kheima
Police defused a homemade bomb thrown under the car of a police officer on the northern outskirts of Cairo Wednesday morning, according to the Middle East News Agency.
The attack by unknown assailants took place in front of the Shubra al-Kheima police station. A leather suitcase was thrown under the officer's car, inside of which was the homemade bomb.
The station contacted the Qalyubia Security Directorate and members of the explosives department headed to the scene where they defused the bomb.
On Tuesday, firefighters were called to a major fire in the Shubra al-Kheima courts complex, located directly beside the police station. Officials said that the fire was considered an accident rather than a terrorist act.
The fire began on the backstairs and spread to the courts’ windows, but did not damage documents stored in the courts.
Over the past three months, the state has reported a series of bomb attacks and shootings targeting police stations and checkpoints.
