National Security officer shot dead in Sharqiya

National Security officer Mohamed Eid Abdel Salam was shot dead in front of his car in the Sharqiya governorate on Saturday, according to the privately owned TV channel MBC Masr. The officer was leaving his house when unknown assailants on a motorcycle shot him in the head.

Eye witness Ahmed Mohamed told the satellite channel that he saw a tall, masked man fleeing the crime scene with a gun in his hand. Mohamed added that the assailant was wearing green and was bearded.

The officer was shot four times in the head and chest and was taken to Zagazig University Hospital, but died shortly after he arrived.

Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawi denounced the incident and added that the terrorist group is approaching an inevitable end in its losing battle with the police, the Armed Forces, the people and the government.

This article previously stated that Abdel Salam was a CSF officer.
