Morsi administration figures arrested for involvement in December violence

Prosecutor of Heliopolis Criminal Court Ibrahim Saleh has ordered the 15-day detention of Ahmed Abdel Aaty, former office manager to ousted President Mohamed Morsi, following the results of an ongoing investigation.

A similar order was issued for Ayman Hodhod, the former administration’s adviser on security and crises.

Both men are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the violent events which occurred outside the Ettehadiya Presidential Palace in December last year, over the controversial constitutional amendments announced by the president the previous month.

The prosecutor announced that the two men will also be investigated for their alleged detainment, interrogation and torture of civilians, whom they also allegedly threatened with murder. The prosecutor will also examine evidence of Abdel Aaty and Hodhod’s roles as accomplices to murder, as well as their “intent to murder” and their active participation in crimes of “thuggery” and “terrorizing civilians.”

Claims against the two men come from what the prosecution described as a “multitude” of complaints from the various “peaceful protesters” and activists demonstrating outside of the presidential palace “against (ousted) President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
