MOI calls on nation to celebrate Jan 25, promises high security

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim called on all Egyptians to gather in the nation’s squares to celebrate the anniversary of the January 25 revolution this Saturday, the state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

The police and Armed Forces would secure all ceremonies and halt any attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood group to thwart them, Ibrahim assured.

The minister made the statements while attending an event at the Police Academy celebrating students who had finished their basic training.

The Brotherhood’s plans to disrupt the January 25 celebrations were being closely monitored and would be aborted, Ibrahim claimed, adding that security forces would take proactive measures to subdue any terrorist elements charged with implementing such plans.

Any attempts to disturb the anniversary would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law, Ibrahim warned.

He also emphasized that the Interior Ministry would coordinate with the Armed Forces to protect vital institutions for the full 24 hours marking the third anniversary of the revolution. Holidays would be canceled for officers and recruits on Saturday, and police stations and prisons would have heightened security, Ibrahim added.
