Military source says arrested 17 ‘terrorists’ in Sinai
A military source said on Sunday that the Armed Forces had captured 17 “terrorists” during several raids targeting Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah in Northern Sinai, according to state-owned daily Al-Ahram.
Military troops also reportedly confiscated several bombs placed near the Sheikh Zuwayed General Hospital, in addition to destroying six bases allegedly used to launch attacks on security forces and five tunnels used to smuggle merchandise and people to Shelayfa, Halawat and Salah Eddin Districts.
Last month, 112 alleged armed militants were either killed or injured in a military raid in Northern Sinai. The Armed Forces also arrested 69 suspects, some of who are members of the Ansar Beit al-Maqdes group, an extremist organization that has claimed responsibility for several attacks on police and military forces.
