MB torch car of high-ranking official in Minya
Assailants from the Muslim Brotherhood set alight the car of the head of the Investigation Bureau in Minya, Captain Amr Hassan, which was parked in front of his house, independently owned newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported Thursday.
The act of violence was in retaliation for his part in the arrest of several Brotherhood members allegedly involved in acts of violence against vital facilities and the organization of protests.
The high-ranking official was decorated several times by security authorities within the governorate, Al-Masry Al-Youm added.
The assailants placed five Molotov cocktails and a homemade bomb underneath the car, which created a large fire and completely destroyed the vehicle.
Hassan filed a report against the Muslim Brotherhood and stated that his house was attacked earlier when assailants threw Molotov cocktails that accidentally hit his neighbor's house, causing a big fire. Police are currently looking for the attackers.
On a separate note, security forces arrested a number of Muslim Brotherhood members Thursday for operating social media pages inciting violence against police officers. According to EgyNews, the pages in question incite violence and aggression, in addition to providing information on bomb manufacturing and calling for the formation of an Islamic army in the Levant, Iraq and Egypt. All computers belonging to those arrested were confiscated and legal procedures are being taken against them, the state-owned portal added.
