Mansour meets defense council to discuss Brotherhood sit-ins

Interim President Adly Mansour headed a meeting with the National Defense Council on Monday to discuss the latest developments regarding the Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins at Rabea al-Adaweya Mosque and Nahda Square, reported the state-owned daily newspaper Al-Ahram.

The interim president also discussed the latest security developments in Sinai, reported the newspaper, quoting “informed sources.”

The meeting was called after the government declared that all diplomatic efforts to end the current crisis with the Brotherhood in the aftermath of former President Mohamed Morsi’s ouster were exhausted.

Last week, a delegation from the US Department of State, the US Senate, the European Union and officials from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates traveled to Cairo in an attempt to negotiate an end a month-long political deadlock between the formerly ruling Muslim Brotherhood group and the military junta. However, Mansour’s government said their efforts failed.
