Iranian tourists not allowed into Egypt
Iranian tourists will no longer be permitted to visit Egypt for security reasons, Tourism Minister Hesham Zaazou has announced.
Speaking on satellite channel Dream 2 on Tuesday evening Zaazou said that he himself “sees no difference between Iranian tourists and tourists from any other country” but that the freeze is for security reasons.
Diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran have been tense for decades. There was a slight thawing during the rule of ousted President Mohamed Morsi and two groups of Iranian tourists were allowed into Egypt for the first time in 34 years.
