An explosion at a Central Security Forces camp in Ismailia left one dead and 35 injured on Thursday night, reported the state-run news portal Ahram Gate.

Eye witnesses said the blast was caused by a car bomb that detonated on Ezz Eddin Road, according to Ahram Gate.

The privately run Al-Masry Al-Youm (AMAY) reported that dozens of ambulances rushed to the scene after the explosion and transported the victims to Ismailia's general and university hospitals.

There was allegedly an exchange of gunfire between CSF forces and the assailants pursuant to the attack, AMAY added.

In a phone interview with the privately owned channel ONTv, Ismailia Governor Ahmed al-Qassas said the explosion caused several road accidents, and civilians were among those injured.

Last month, an explosion rocked the military intelligence building in Ismailia, injuring six soldiers.

The frequency of militant attacks on security checkpoints, CSF camps and military installations has dramatically increased since former President Mohamed Morsi was forcibly removed from office by the Armed Forces on July 3.
