Court freezes Islamists’ assets
A court froze the assets of more than a dozen Islamists on Monday.
The North Cairo Criminal Court upheld four requests to freeze the assets of officials in the Muslim Brotherhood and their political allies.
The order targets many Brotherhood officials who are currently already in prison. These include Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, the Deputy Supreme Guide Khairat al-Shater, the head of the Freedom and Justice Party Saad al-Katatny, guidance bureau member Rashad Bayoumi, and former Supreme Guide Mahdi Akef.
Vice president of the FJP Essam al-Erian, who has eluded warrants for his arrest, is also on the list, along with former MP Mohamed al-Omda.
A number of the Brotherhood's political allies also were included on the list, including Essam Sultan, the vice president of the Wasat Party, which broke off from the Brotherhood in 1996.
Brotherhood associated cleric Safwat Hegazy and firebrand Salafi cleric Hazem Abu Ismail were also on the list, as well as Tarek al-Zomor and Assem Abdel Maged, two members of Jama’a al-Islamiya.
