Authorities ban Darrag from travel
Amr Darrag was halted by authorities at the Cairo International Airport on Monday as he attempted to board a plane to Qatar, reported the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.
Darrag, the secretary of foreign relations in the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, has been banned from travel by the general prosecutor, the airport authorities said.
A key figure in negotiations with the current military-backed government, Darrag is one of the last Brotherhood figures to remain free as the state continues the harsh crackdown on the group’s members — including Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie — that began when former President Mohamed Morsi was ousted from power on July 3.
Al-Ahram reported that Darrag was allowed to take his luggage and leave the airport, as a warrant has not been issued for his arrest.
