Activist Ahmed Douma released

A Cairo court released activist Ahmed Douma on Saturday without bail, after having been handed a six-month sentence.

Douma, an activist with the Popular Current group, was accused in April of inciting violence against the Muslim Brotherhood by calling on anti-regime protesters to storm the group's headquarters in Moqattam.

Another 11 people are facing the same charges in the case, including activists Alaa Abd El Fattah and Nawara Negm.

Douma was also accused of insulting deposed President Mohamed Morsi. The latter was ousted on Wednesday after a military statement ordered him out of office in the aftermath of mass calls for his resignation.

Meanwhile, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported the adjourning of the case against human rights lawyer Hassan Mostafa, accused of assaulting a prosecutor in Alexandria, until August 4.

Mostafa has been handed an initial sentence of two years in jail, which was later reduced to one year.

Both cases brought activists to the streets of Cairo and Alexandria, calling for their release.
