20 metro protesters arrested

Security forces arrested 20 people after they attempted to stage an anti-military protest in two metro stations, Al-Ahram reported.

The newspaper reported that supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood had gathered at the metro stations, chanting slogans against the Armed Forces and the police.

Police forces said that those they arrested were carrying slingshots and spray cans.

Early Sunday, several Facebook pages had called for a metro-crippling protest against the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in metro stations across the city. Protesters are to board trains during rush hours — 7-10 am, and 2-5 pm — and to remain on the train, back and forth from one end to another, for the full three hours.

Protests, which are largely organized by the National Alliance for Legitimacy, have lost steam due to the violent crackdown, a curfew imposed by the military and a leadership vacuum in the wake of a dragnet targeting Morsi’s group.
